1. Foster-Smith Log Cabin

Currently located in Railroad Park across the road from the Chamber of Commerce, the Foster-Smith Log Cabin was built in 1825. John Foster built this cabin in Copiah County where it stood on an old post road until it was moved to this public location in 1997. This hidden gem is not just a beautiful snapshot of 1900s history, but it also listed on the list of great locations from the Mississippi Film Office.

2. Historic Whitworth College Campus

From 1858-1928, Whitworth College was a 4-year college for women. Six of the original buildings have been lovingly preserved and can be found on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. After Brookhaven donated the campus to the state, the site became the new home for the Mississippi School of the Arts.

3. The Lincoln County Historical and Genealogical Society

Housed in the historic Temple B’nai Shalom, this museum works to preserve the history, memories, and stories from all over Lincoln County. A large part of their mission is to pay homage to the 125-year history of the synagogue. The museum maintains the original Yahrtzeit memorial wall, cantor and rabbi seats, Menorah, podium, and the Torah scroll mantle. Offering a glimpse of the rich history of Brookhaven through annual events and its gallery full of treasures.

4. Brookhaven Little Theater

Brookhaven is home to the longest-running community theater in the state of Mississippi. The Little Theater has brought almost 200 productions to the area since 1968. Their venue has changed a few times over the years, including the Lampton Auditorium which is now a part of the Mississippi School of the Arts. Their home since 1982 has been the fully restored and remodeled historic Haven Theater. This is a true gem not to be missed.

5. The Inn on Whitworth

Visitors to Brookhaven would be remiss to not make this historic inn a stop on their list. This boutique hotel is in the original Cohn Brothers Mercantile Store, built in 1895. In an effort to retain as much of the original building features as possible, the building went through a strategic refurbishment in 2011. What visitors will see today is the product of that successful effort, a palatial lobby, and 14 luxurious suite-style rooms, each offering a slice of this time capsule.

6. Coffee Pot Café

Serving the Brookhaven area with hot coffee and Louisiana-inspired, delicious meals since 1930, Coffee Pot Café cannot be skipped. Visitors would have a hard time missing the enormous coffee pot outside, this local favorite in Enterprise is known as the quirkiest eatery in the state. Be sure to indulge with some mouthwatering gumbo before browsing their shop, the Creekside Mercantile. You’ll be sure to find a hidden gem of your own to take home!
