Getting to the shores of Lake Maurepas from downtown Brookhaven takes a little over an hour by car, driving a distance of just 95 miles along route I-55 S. This lake is fed by four different rivers and is connected to Lake Pontchartrain by the South Manchac and North Manchac passes. Featuring a surface area of almost 200,000 acres, the Homochitto National Forest is one of the best-known recreation areas in southern Mississippi.
